The Rotary Club of Mount Joy and the Donegal Area Rotary Club are partnering together in a Rotary District Grant Club Project to benefit the rebuild of Kids Joy Land playground in Borough Park, Mount Joy.

In September 2012, the playground was destroyed by fire. A committee of concerned citizens(C.O.R.E. – Community Organized Rebuilding Experience) was quickly formed to oversee the building a new playground at Borough Park. Architect Jane Holman of the firm of Leathers & Associates was engaged to design the new playground which has the same footprint as the former playground and incorporates ideas from Donegal School District elementary students,

the Mount Joy Historical Society, and local businesses. The new playground, unlike the former playground, will not be made out of wood, but a composite of recycled materials that will have a lifespan of 50 years. Organizers plan to have the playground completed by spring of 2014, pending the project’s fundraising. The entire project is estimated at $175,000. To date, approximately $45,000 has been raised through private donations and community fundraising events. Several fundraisers have already been held and more are scheduled.

Thanks to a matching grant from District 7390 District Grants Committee and The Rotary International Foundation, a total of $7,000 will be contributed to CORE towards the purchase of a component of the playground equipment called an OmniSpin Spinner. In addition to the purchase of the OmniSpin Spinner, Rotarians from both clubs will be volunteering their time to help in the installation of the new Kids Joy Land Playground.
